The county clerk's office in Tucumcari handles informal probate and county papers, but a court case lives with a different office entirely. Felonies, family disputes, and larger civil suits are heard by the Quay County District Court under the Tenth Judicial District. The magistrate court, with its own clerk, covers misdemeanors, DWI, traffic, landlord and tenant matters, and modest claims. City ordinance tickets go before Tucumcari's municipal judge. Where to look first is easy. The statewide case lookup returns district and magistrate results in one pass, and each result names the court, the case number, and the clerk who keeps the rest of the Quay County court docket.

Quay County Docket Lookup Layers

Two layers exist, and they show different material. Case Lookup is the broad public route for docket summaries. re:Search NM is the registered Tyler system. Depending on a user's profile, it can display richer case, hearing, filing, financial, and linked-document detail. What appears depends on registration, case type, and confidentiality tier. A zero-case result there can stem from a profile, timing, or access problem. It does not mean a Quay County case is absent.

Statewide tools never replace local custody. Quay County has no separately identified District Court search application in the official source set. The Tenth Judicial District links to the state search and keeps the local court contacts. If a docket or document fails to appear online, take the public result to the proper clerk. Do not take it to an unrelated county office.

For statewide court navigation, forms, public-record guidance, and current notices, the New Mexico judiciary home is the official starting point. Use it before anything else.

The statewide site frames public case search as one piece of a larger court system. That is why a Quay County result still needs a court-level check.

Inside a Quay County Court Docket

Think of a Quay County court docket as a chronology, not the full file. New Mexico materials may label the event view a docket summary, case detail, case events, or a register of actions. One case can list a filing date, an upcoming hearing, an order entry, and a disposition. The pleadings and orders themselves stay in the clerk's file or sit behind a permitted re:Search NM account. A docket entry proves an action was entered. The text of that action is another matter.

Case numberIdentifies the court, category, year, and sequence. Preserve it exactly as shown.
Case styleThe caption or description used to distinguish the public case result.
Filing and event entriesThe dated record of filed papers, hearings, orders, and other public case actions.
Hearing settingThe scheduled date, time, court, judicial officer, and setting type when published.
Case categoryA routing label such as CR for criminal, TR for traffic, or CV for civil in the legacy instructions.
DispositionThe recorded outcome when it is public and has been entered.

Public Case Lookup does not promise a complete or current official record. Need proof of a judgment, filing, or disposition? Request that specific document, or a certified copy, from the court holding the file.

Quay County Docket Case Numbers

A New Mexico case number works like a court map. The older official instructions use D-101-CR-200600001 as an example. They explain that the prefix identifies the court type. D generally means District Court. M means Magistrate Court, U means Municipal Court, and T means Metropolitan Court. In that same legacy material, CR denotes criminal, TR traffic, and CV civil. Read the current Quay County result exactly as returned, never reconstructed from a sample.

D
District Court, the Quay County general-jurisdiction trial court.
M
Magistrate Court, often the route for lower criminal, traffic, landlord-tenant, and limited civil matters.
U
Municipal Court, the city-court prefix that can point toward a Tucumcari municipal matter.
Register of actions
The ordered list of case events, filings, hearings, and recorded status actions.

Historical cases can carry different zeroes, years, or patterns. Enter the printed number first. If the search rejects it, hand the clerk the printed number and the approximate filing year instead of guessing at a new format.

Courts That Keep Dockets in Quay County

Routing a Quay County docket turns on case type and court. It does not turn on the county address alone. The District Court belongs to the Tenth Judicial District. It handles felony, major civil, family, juvenile, estate, and lower-court appeal work. Magistrate Court holds limited jurisdiction: misdemeanors, DWI, traffic, landlord-tenant disputes, civil claims within its limit, and felony preliminary proceedings. Tucumcari Municipal Court, for its part, keeps a separate city docket for local matters.

The Tenth District is the local state-court framework for the Quay County District and Magistrate dockets. The municipal court runs its own city channel.

Quay County Docket Hearing Window

The Tenth District docket index splits its hearing links by court. Quay County District Court sits on one side. Quay County Magistrate Court sits on the other. The District schedule spans the current day plus six days ahead. That range suits a quick check before a hearing, arraignment, motion, or published trial setting. It does not reach into history. Nor is it a countywide municipal calendar, or a promise that every scheduled event appears.

The schedule itself cautions that entries can omit details. It carries no warranty of completeness or accuracy. When a date falls beyond the displayed window, look up the case. Then call the court that holds it. A fuller date workflow, including the District and Magistrate clerk fallback, is set out in Quay County Court Dates.

Settings move. A reset, continuance, cancellation, or new order can change what a docket line means. Confirm directly with the clerk before appearing, traveling, or relying on remote-hearing information.

How to Find Court Dates and Settings

Begin any Quay County date search with the court named on the notice. For a District or Magistrate case, scan the six-day schedule first. Then turn to Case Lookup or the registered layer for the larger event history. District Court answers at 575-461-2764. The Magistrate Court number is 575-461-1700. A Tucumcari municipal citation takes a different route. It runs through the city court, whose current public contact number is 575-461-6375.

Write down the court, date, time, case number, case style, judicial officer, setting type, and room or remote information when shown. A calendar entry is only a setting notice. It is not a certified record. If a date is missing, outside the six-day window, or inconsistent with a notice, ask the clerk for the register-of-actions entry or the current setting.

The Tenth District contact page posts the official court phone, email, hours, and remote-hearing routing information.

Quay County courts run on separate clerk offices. Call the court first, so a request, a court-date inquiry, or a remote-hearing question lands with the right office the first time.

Quay County Docket Results and Files

A public docket result is not the whole file. Case Lookup hands back summaries and event information. re:Search NM can expose more to authorized registered users. The actual record lives with the clerk whose office holds it: District Court, Magistrate, municipal, or the County Clerk. When you request something, name the exact document or event. Do not just ask for a case search printout.

The gap matters for older matters. It also matters for documents unavailable to a public profile and court records under restriction. A docket result may still give you the case number, filing date, and title needed to order a pleading, judgment, or register-of-actions copy. The originating clerk can also tell you whether a plain or certified copy is available.

Public Access to Court Dockets

New Mexico Rule 1-079 NMRA presumes court records are open to inspection and copying. That presumption holds unless a rule, statute, court order, or privacy protection says otherwise. The rule reaches documents, papers, exhibits, transcripts, register-of-actions entries, and docket entries. Open access does not promise every filing shows up online. Protected identifiers can be masked. A clerk may also request contact information and identification before inspection or copying.

Key Rules:

Rule 1-079 NMRA - Court records are generally open, subject to sealing, confidentiality, and protected-identifier rules.

New Mexico Inspection of Public Records Act portal - A request should identify the requester and describe the record with reasonable particularity.

NMSA 1978, Section 32A-2-32 - Juvenile information has confidentiality limits that can restrict a public result.

Some records carry public-access limits. Juvenile criminal information after July 1, 2007, Family Violence Protection Act orders after July 1, 2008, sealed material, and certain older cases all qualify. A Judicial IPRA request cannot override a seal or a confidentiality rule.

Quay County Docket City Court Route

Tucumcari is the only incorporated Quay County place with a current state Municipal Courts Division directory entry. Its Municipal Court hears city code enforcement, animal control, petty misdemeanors, DWI/DUI, and traffic. For a municipal citation, start at the Tucumcari city court portal or with the municipal clerk. Never assume the District Court schedule carries it.

Logan, San Jon, and House are incorporated too. The state directory lists no municipal-court entry for Logan or House. San Jon keeps only a legacy listing. A city name alone never determines the record custodian. The issuing court, prefix, case number, and notice do that.

The official Magistrate Court judges page identifies Quay County Magistrate Court. It is its own county-level court. State traffic and misdemeanor matters arising outside a city municipal docket often land there.

Traffic tickets and lower-court criminal matters in a Magistrate docket all run through the Magistrate clerk. That office, not the County Clerk, is the right local contact.

Quay County Docket Request Options

Not every Quay County docket or court record lives on a screen. Start by figuring out which office holds the file. District Court keeps its own cases. Magistrate Court holds a separate set, and Tucumcari Municipal Court handles city matters. The Quay County Clerk holds county records and informal probate files, so it is the wrong desk for a District Court criminal or civil docket. If nothing turns up online, you have options. You can visit the counter, call the clerk, send an email, mail or fax a written request, or use the Judicial IPRA webform.

Put the basics in writing when you can. List the case number, party names or case style, the document you need, roughly when it was filed, copy type, how you want it delivered, and contact information. Hold off on payment until you ask. Quay posts no current fee schedule of its own. Comparable New Mexico district forms list $0.35 per plain page and $1.50 per certified document. But the clerk must confirm the amount, payment method, postage, and timing for Quay. For the wider difference between a request and a copy, see Quay County Court Record Search.
